Bulk SMS Puts The SERVICE back In Customer Service For Smart Banks
Just when you finally get used to on-line
banking, along comes a whole new level of service that makes PC-based banking
look like yesterday's news. bulk SMS, or text messaging as it is commonly known,
is invading the banking and financial industry and no one is fighting back.
The ability for banks and credit card companies to reach their customers 24/7
via bulk SMS instant messaging has put a whole new twist on customer service.
SMS-enabled banks, and there are more and more of them coming online every day,
are offering their customers the ability to receive text message alerts directly
to their wireless communication device instead of to their e-mail box which is
rapidly becoming obsolete.
Banking customers can sign up for services that notify them when various types
of transactions occur in their checking or savings accounts, or when certain
balance thresholds are hit.
These transactions can include instant messaging alerts when their direct
deposit paycheck hits, or when the bank accesses their overdraft protection, or
when a check or deposit clears. All of these types of alerts are more valuable
when a customer receives them in real time without having to be logged on to
their computer in order to read their e-mail.
Customers love the convenience and banks love the ease in which bulk SMS
technology can be integrated into their legacy software. All of that ease and

software tools that enable programmers to quickly and easily add code that
"knows" how to access the SMS wireless gateway and how to send and receive text
messages.

all of the technical complexity from the process of sending and receiving SMS
messages. All the bank's I.T. staff has to do is integrate the library with
their existing systems and call the correct functions by passing the SMS message
and mobile telephone number. The bulk SMS software takes care of all the rest.
Receiving and processing inbound text messages is just as easy.
Depending upon the banks's needs, they can even integrate bulk SMS messaging
into their e-mail clients, like MS Outlook, without any need to have access to

On the security side of the house, credit card fraud experts are hailing bulk
SMS text messaging as the fastest and safest way to contact customers when
unusual charge activity is noticed. Smart monitoring software can be developed

shopping at Tiffany's and have just made a $5,000 purchase." Once SMS security
applications become widespread, it could spell the end to major bank losses due
to credit card fraud.
There used to be a time when banks that offered on-line banking services had a
definite marketing advantage over those that did not. Now the time is coming
where that advantage is shifting to those banks that offer their customers the
security and convenience of bulk SMS banking instead.
